MAMMALS

Mammals are descended from a group of reptiles which lived in the triassic period time 245-208 million years ago and are therefore much older than birds. Mammals live in a variety of habitats, ranging from rivers and oceans to jungles and deserts, and are among the most multifarious of all animal groups. Humans belong to a mammal group knowen as the primates.

The size of mammals varies a lot. They range from the blue whale weighing up to 150 meltric tonnes (the biggest animal of all animals) to the dwarf shrew-mouse weighing only 1,5 g. Their habitats are also varied, from bats in the air to whales and seals in the ocean. What they all have in common is that they all have some fur and they all suckle their young.

Today we can find about 4000 different groups of mammals in the world.
